Lamai Camp
Lamai Serengeti sits tucked amongst the rocks of Kogakuria Kopje with panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, just a few miles from where the wildebeest cross the Mara River in the northern Serengeti.
For roughly a quarter of the year, between late July and October, this is where the migration is happening - right here, on the doorstep of Lamai Serengeti.
Each of Lamai Serengeti’s rooms is designed to fit around the complex geometry of the kopje and to make the most of this sensational location, its views and its natural space and light. Views from the verandas are outstanding.
Lamai Serengeti has just 12 very spacious and comfortable rooms, split between two entirely separate lodges, the Main Lodge of 8 rooms and a smaller Private Lodge with just 4 rooms.
What’s so Special?
The location is perfect for viewing river crossings on the Mara River during the migration. A stay of 2 or 3 nights offers a very high chance of seeing river crossings in season.
Not only that but the location amongst the Kopjes means lions are very frequently spotted, and the terrain is ideal leopard country.
Bear in Mind
Unlike the southern plains of the Serengeti that dry out, forcing all but the hardiest of species to leave, this area remains lush and green.
Although a stay at Lamai Serengeti can be the Mara River crossings, there is much else here besides, including spectacular game viewing in a stunning landscape.
Serengeti Safari Camp
Small, intimate and simple, Serengeti Safari Camp is a wonderful tented camp in the Serengeti’s northern reaches.
Serengeti Safari Camp was the first of it’s kind, designed to be in the best possible location to view the wildebeest migration as it covers hundreds of miles of the Serengeti National Park each year.
Each year, this little camp casts off from Lamai Serengeti (a permanent lodge) and begins its own odyssey, covering hundreds of miles and moving every couple of months along a route that the herds have travelled for hundreds of years.
Serengeti Safari Camp has just 6 open-plan walk-in meru tents, with an en-suite bathroom at the rear.
New eco-flush toilets and safari-style bucket showers, as well as a wash-basin with cold running water, and hot water delivered as and when you'd like them.
The main dining tent sits in the middle of the line of tents, with the fireplace right in front and a separate library/bar tent nearby.
What’s so Special?
Since the days in the early 90’s when Mark and Milly Houldsworth sat down to design this little camp, it's been much copied, but never equalled. The style of the camp is effortless comfort - a home from home.
Bear in Mind
Serengeti safari camp is about great company and relaxed comfort, not luxury for its own sake – the luxury is as much about the location and the feeling of being part of this amazing wilderness.
