December is a great time of year to visit Sri Lanka. Along the west and southern coasts the climate is generally dry with long hot and sunny days.

Kandy and the Hill Country destinations can still receive some rainfall in December, but less than in October and November, with temperatures in the mid to high 20’s.

Yala National Park should be hot and dry at this time of year.

The north of Sri Lanka and the East coast are under the influence of the Northeast monsoon and experience higher rainfall at this time of year.
