Pumba Private Game Reserve
Pumba Game Reserve in South Africa’s Eastern Cape is part of the African Pride Group, an exclusive collection of deluxe hotels, lodges and country houses.
Pumba Private Game Reserve offers a luxury game lodge experience at one of two intimate camps, each with a pool framed by timber decks and outdoor showers.
Pumba Water Lodge offers unrivalled views over Lake Cariega from stone walled, thatched chalets with private wooden decks.
Msenge Bush Lodge, perched above a watering hole and overlooking the flood plain of the Cariega River, is a little bit more intimate and exclusive with a different outlook.
Eleven luxury glass-enclosed, thatched chalets flow naturally into the African Bushveld, with a real ‘close-to nature’ feel to them.
Puma Private Reserve protects over 6,500 hectares of grassland, fynbos and forest and is home to the Big 5, in a malaria free park.
What’s so Special?
The lodges offer a very high standard of accommodation and we love the private splash pools, which offer views over the bush, without compromising on privacy. The outdoor showers add to the sense of being close to nature.
This is a very game-rich area and the white lions are a real highlight.
Bear in mind
Pumba Private Game Reserve is malaria-free making this a very good alternative to the Kruger National Park for a family safari holiday in South Africa.

Big 5 Safari Drives
A Safari drive conducted by one of Pumba’s expert guides in the luxury of an open Land Rovers takes place every morning and evening.
The White Lion pride is a real highlight, but equally there are abundant leopards, buffaloes, elephants, tawny lion and rhinoceroses roaming the plains, along with countless smaller species.
Night Safari Drives
Night safari drives offer the chance to see an entirely different array of animals as they come out of their hiding places to hunt and forage in the cool darkness.
These include the otherwise elusive aardvark, hyena and aardwolf. Lions also revel in the cool evening air, making impressive kills, which you may be lucky enough to witness.
The spotlights on the safari vehicles are unobtrusive, but will allow you to be a part of the after-dark action.
Birding Safari’s
With the wide variety of avian species gracing the Eastern Cape skies, you are assured of a very satisfying birding safari.
Pre-arranged bird outings are conducted using modern birding technology, which will enable you to learn about bird species, habitats and behaviours.
Qualified birding guides conduct these safaris through the exquisite Afromontane Forest, along the riverbanks and valleys of Brookhuizenspoort, and from the magnificent vantage point of Pumba's bird hide.
