Tiger Rock is a boutique hotel on Pangkor Island offering an alternative to staying in larger more formal resorts in Malaysia.

Tiger Rock consists of 4 simply decorated wooden houses set amongst the Pangkor Island rainforest. With only 8 rooms in total, Tiger Rock is one of the smallest boutique hotels in Malaysia.

Owned by an artist, Tiger Rock has quite a mildly Bohemian feel about it and will suit those who prefer a more homely ambience to a large resort with all facilities.

Tiger Rock can be booked as a whole, with 4 houses (8 rooms) or can be booked on a room or house basis.

The Infinity Pool is at the heart of Tiger Rock, which also has open sided communal areas creating a very sociable atmosphere.

Dining at Tiger Rock takes place around the Pool House on a communal table, with fine Malay style cuisine served up by Bavanni (whose husband is the in-house Manager).

What’s so Special?

The location amongst the lush rainforest of Pangkor Island creates a very natural ambience to Tiger Rock, and the timber houses open up nicely to create indoor-outdoor living.

Birdlife is abundant and colourful giant butterflies flit around. The sight of a hornbill flying overhead is something difficult to tire of.

A Pangkor Island tour is included in a stay at Tiger Rock.

Bear in mind

Tiger Rock was formerly Rebecca and David’s family home and retains the ‘lived-in’ style.

Tiger Rock isn’t on the beach. The nearest beach is quite a trek along the jungle path (20-minutes or so). It’s easier to be driven.

The rainforest setting means that Tiger Rock is a destination for nature lovers. The jungle has insects, so if you run at the sight of an ant, Tiger Rock won’t be the place for you.

Hill House

The Wilkinsons private guesthouse, is surrounded by mature trees and palms and has views across the sea.

Built after the style of a colonial tea estate bungalow the 4 large private suites, all with en-suite bathrooms and verandas, are fitted with fans and air-conditioning.

Two of these bedrooms have an adjoining door which opens them up as a large family suite.

Hill House is made up of 3 pavilions on stone wall terraces. The central living, dining and kitchen pavilion provides a totally open air jungle experience with views through to the sea.

At night, it's fun to watch the chichaks (the common house lizard) catching insects around the lanterns.

All the houses and rooms have been decorated individually by Rebecca and David, and show off their collection of artworks, antiques, artifacts and inspiring bits and pieces.

Dining

Dining at Tiger Rock takes place around the Pool House on a communal table, with fine Malay style cuisine served up by Bavanni (whose husband is the in-house Manager).

Dining is actually quite a highlight at Tiger Rock and a great place to enjoy some genuine home-cooked Malaysian dishes.

There are no other places to eat nearby but a stay at Tiger Rock includes all meals.
