Mekong Riverview Hotel is a great value boutique hotel in Luang Prabang, located on the tip of the peninsula, at the very end of the Luang Prabang’s old town, right by the Royal Temple Wat Xienthong.
Mekong Riverview is a very welcoming boutique hotel and highly recommended for those looking for a personalised hotel in a fabulous location in a peaceful spot to enjoy some river views and strolls or cycles around town.
The view from the Mekong Riverview’s Riverside café/restaurant is actually over the confluence of two rivers, the Mekong and the Nam Khan River.
There are three room types, all spacious and all featuring private balconies or verandas with views over the river. Rooms mix Laotian style with great modern touches such as adjustable beds and rainforest showers.
What’s so Special?
It can be so quiet at night it’s hard to believe you’re in Laos’ most popular tourist destination.
The location, Laotian touches and Swedish design is a winning combination. We have to mention the beds - remote control adjustable beds and very comfortable indeed. In a hot and sometimes humid climate, don’t underestimate the importance of a room with excellent air conditioning. Coming back to a room with great air-con is a welcome feeling.
Urban, the Swedish owner lives on site and goes a long way to ensure guests are very happy. If Urban is not there, Hedwig is very helpful. Feedback and reviews are consistently excellent.
Bicycles are free to use and the hotel has a buggy shuttle service into the middle of town if the walk seems a bit too demanding.
Bear in mind
There’s no swimming pool for those who need a swim.
Rooms are furnished with handcrafted wood furniture, with dark wooden floors which ads a very Laotian feel to the rooms.
Spacious bathrooms feature twin vanities and an exclusive double rainforest shower.
Our favoured rooms are the Superior Mekong River View and Junior Suite.
Superior Mekong River View
These rooms are 26 – 32 sq. m. and all feature windows and private balconies with views over the Mekong.
Junior Suite River View
Junior Suites are a very generous size (42 sq. m.) and offer river views and bathrooms equipped with wooden bathtubs (on the ground floor suites only) and separate showers.
All Junior Suite River Views Rooms have panoramic views of the Mekong River from windows and verandas / balconies. Choose between Swedish made adjustable king size bed or twin beds.
Superior Suite Side View
At 48 sq. m. these Suites are spacious and feature a private Jacuzzi area. The suites feature a very large ‘L-shaped’ balcony, half of which faces the garden, and the other half looking over the Mekong.

Viewpoint Café – Restaurant
Viewpoint café offers a fantastic view at breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfasts are tranquil affairs as the river lazily glides by. At night the atmosphere is cozy, with palm trees as the roof.
