In August the Western and Southern coasts of Sri Lanka are still under the influence of the Southeast monsoon. However, the rainfall levels actually take a bit of a dip in August, meaning that August can be rather more settled for a relaxing beach holiday in Sri Lanka than the preceding and following months.

The East of Sri Lanka is settled at this time of year too and also a great option for a relaxing part of a Sri Lanka holiday.

Things are cooler Sri Lanka’s Hill Country in August, which is where those open fireplaces in colonial era hotels in Nuwara Elya are very welcome. Things can get quite chilly at night and in the early mornings.

The Cultural Triangle region is generally dry, hot and a bit breezy at this time of year.
