The New Territories make up a vast swathe of Hong Kong yet remain uncharted territory for most. This fascinating morning tour will take you into the heart of these mysterious and often rural areas.

Over four-and-a-half hours, the trip takes in such varied and colourful sights as Lok Ma Chau, Tai Po Market, Tsang Tai Uk and Wong Tai Sin Temple, offering you glimpses of many aspects of daily life in Hong Kong.

Lok Ma Chau is located on the northwest of the New Territories, bang on the frontier with China. Despite Hong Kong no longer being a British colony and reverting to Chinese rule in 1997, there is still a border crossing over the Sham Chun River into Shenzhen, itself a modern metropolis of more than 10 million souls. Despite ever-encroaching urbanisation, it still maintains the air of an ancient settlement. Head back towards the outer suburbs of Kowloon and admire the Wong Tai Sin Temple, a large Taoist shrine that boasts a stunning nine-dragon wall and is famed for its soothsayers and fortune tellers.

Visit the main attractions of Hong Kong Island on this orientation tour. Take the Peak Tram up to Victoria Peak for a panoramic view. Pass Repulse Bay and stop at Stanley Market. Explore the market and exercise your bargaining skills.

The next stop is Aberdeen fishing village, home to Hong Kong's junk-dwelling floating community, still very much a part of Hong Kong life.

Be seduced by the sights of Hong Kong by night with an evening cruise that will linger long in the memory. Start with dinner at the famous Buppa Gump restaurant on Victoria Peak, with spectacular views of Hong Kong.

Get a feel of the hustle and bustle of the city as you take a stroll along the busy lanes of Temple Street Market. Here you can pick up a bargain or see what your future holds by having your fortune told.

To complete the evening, enjoy drinks on a Chinese-style boat tour and take in the exciting views as you leisurely cruise along Victoria Harbour.

Lantau Island is almost twice the size of Hong Kong Island and is one of the best loved outlying islands. Hop aboard a fast ferry for a spectacular ride through the busy harbour past ocean-going ships to beautiful Chung Sha Beach.

Get close to nature on this tour and explore Tai O, a quaint fishing village where the houses are on stilts, visit the World's tallest outdoor, seated bronze statue at the Po Lin Monastery and enjoy a great vegetarian meal.

Hong Kong is a city of markets, trade exchanges and negotiations. Hong-Kong also has traditional street markets. This day trip will be on foot and use the public transport system to give a real local life experience.

The trip starts with the Bird and Flower Markets, both located in the north of Mongkok. To take a stroll with their caged birds is a favourite activity of old people in Hong Kong, and your walk through the market will be accompanied by birdsong. At the neighbouring flower market, find a huge variety of flowers. Both offer great photographic opportunities.

From here head to the Goldfish Market on Tang Choi road, where impassioned vendors not only hawk exotic fish, coral, tanks and accompanying plant decor, but also dogs, spiders, lizards and snakes.

By way of contrast, the next stop is a quick look at nearby Langham Place, a well designed shopping centre boasting giant metallic spiral sculptures.

Leave Mongkok by subway for Kowloon and take the Star Ferry across Hong Kong Harbour, one of the 'must-do' experiences in Hong Kong. Admire one of the world's most beautiful skylines, where skyscrapers compete with the city’s highest hills.

On arrival in Hong Kong Island, continue on to Chun Yueng road, renowned for its traditional markets selling exotic fruits, vegetables and seafood. 

Take the subway to Wanchai station to visit the Toy Market on Taiyuen street, a paradise for children  and for people looking for more nostalgic pieces. Hong Kong was the world's toy production centre in the 1980's.

Travel by subway to Sheung Wan to see the final market of the day on Koh Shing Street, a market dedicated to Chinese medicine. See a collection of traditional remedies in the form of pills, powders and brews made from plants (such as ginseng root), animals (scorpions, seahorses, snakes). The pharmacists of Koh Shing street are known for their encyclopaedic knowledge! 

Either return directly to your hotel or stay for dinner in the authentic night-time Temple Street Market, which has a large variety of seafood and local specialties on offer in a bustling setting. (Dinner not included, and return to your hotel independently if staying out for dinner).
