Miami Beach
Dubbed ‘America's Riviera’, Miami Beach is a coastal resort city set on a small barrier island and connected by bridges to mainland Miami.
The city is at once a vibrant urban metropolis with all the amenities one would expect from a world-class city, and a natural wonderland complete with breathtaking beaches lapped by turquoise waters and lined with rows of swaying palm trees.
Whether you are keen to explore the kid-friendly beaches and the inviting oceanfront shops and restaurants of North Miami Beach; the galleries, museums and theaters of Greater Miami; or the high-end boutiques, cutting-edge fusion restaurants, exclusive nightclubs and Art Deco architectural delights of the star-studded South Beach, you are sure to find everything you could possibly desire in this superbly sunny, seaside city.
Key West
Key West is America’s southernmost destination, lying at the farthest end of the chain of resort islands known as the Florida Keys.
It is famous for its idyllic beaches, sparkling nightlife, charming Old Town and diverse watersports, including diving, sailing, kiteboarding, jet skiing and banana boating.
The isle was the prior residence of famous author, Ernest Hemingway, who cited its appeal as indulging three of his fiercest passions - ‘catching big fish, eating well and drinking hard’.
Today, you can still do as Hemingway did, or you can spend your time more quietly - revelling in the beauty of the island’s tropical enclaves, palm-lined white shores and exquisite sunsets.
History lovers will relish the Hemingway House, which offers guided tours of the former 19th-century home of the writer, as well as the the Museum of Art and History at the Custom House. Key West’s vibrant nightlife is mainly concentrated around Duval Street and the carnival-like Mallory Square.
Naples
The serene beach town of Naples may not possess quite the degree of cultural heritage as its European namesake, but what it lacks in historical significance it more than makes up for in laid-back ambience and quietly elegant luxury.
Instead of archaeological treasures, you will find first-class hotels and championship golf courses, and in the place of pasta, you'll find an outstanding cosmopolitan culinary scene boasting gastronomic delights from around the globe.
With its uber-luxurious waterfront estates and some of the most extravagant condos in the world sitting alongside its state of the art water park and the Golisano Children’s Museum of Naples, the seaside resort town of Naples manages to strike the perfect balance between sophisticated resort living and warm and welcoming family fun.
Clearwater
Located in Florida’s beautiful Tampa Bay, Clearwater is a holiday resort city known for its spectacular beaches, lush parks and sunny days.
Birthplace of the Hooters restaurant chain and host to the spring break party scene, visitors flock to this vacation mecca for fun in the sun, sea, sand and surf.
Join the nightly sunset celebration at Pier 60, sample delicious local cuisine, and enjoy a locally crafted brew.
There are a variety of other activities to be enjoyed such as visiting the famous Clearwater Marine Aquarium, discovering an array of historic buildings, and exploring fascinating museums.
Other highlights include: cycling, swimming, shopping, and attending a number of wonderful concerts, festivals and exhibits.
Orlando
Known for its gleefully over-the-top showmanship and for possessing more theme parks and entertainment attractions than anywhere else in the world, Orlando offers all that and much more for the savvy traveller.
With its excellent shopping deals, charming boutique hotels, and restaurants that indulge every taste imaginable, Orlando is just as much a playground for grown-ups as it is for the little ones.
Outdoorsy visitors can hike, swim or canoe at the Ocala National Forest, Wekiwa Springs State Park or one of the area's many other sparkling springs.
If that sounds slightly too adventurous, there are plenty of museums on offer at Winter Park where you can enjoy some high-end shopping and dining on Park Avenue.
With all of this diversity on offer, it is little wonder that Orlando comes out on top as the most popular family destination on earth.
Fort Lauderdale
Fort Lauderdale is known for its pristine beaches, sophisticated night life, Venice-like waterways, top-notch dining, and tours to the Florida Everglades.
With boating, diving, snorkelling and fishing being ever-popular pastimes, there’s also the opportunity to tour the Everglades, culminating in an alligator-handling exhibition.
But if being photographed with a snapper is not your scene, pop into the Gizmo City and Runway Rockets exhibits, or take a trip on the riverboat replica Carrie B for a ‘Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous’ tour.
