Before the advent of tourism, Canouan was home to sailors and fishermen, an island just five square miles in size.
Fishermen still practice their trade on Canouan, proud of their community heritage as boat builders. Models of the traditional wooden boats are still indeed lovingly constructed by hand.
Canouan manages to retain a distinct quality inherited from another time in history, another age.
Days can be whiled away on the beach, whilst more strenuous activities include an array of water sports including diving and sailing.
