Matahari Beach Resort & Spa is a 32-room luxury boutique hotel on the north coast of Bali, with a strong philosophy of supporting Balinese culture and traditions.
The Matahari Bali is a great choice for those looking to experience Balinese culture, whilst enjoying a luxurious intimate resort with a great spa and fine dining.
Rooms at the Matahari are set in single storey bungalows (2 rooms per bungalow) and feature rich Balinese furnishings and modern conveniences.
Matahari's main restaurant is romantically situated overlooking the garden and a small stage on which low key performances (usually a solo Balinese muician) are usually held during dinner.
Torchlit at night, this is a very romantic dining venue with a quality menu to match.
What’s so Special?
The Matahari is a family run affair (Magnus & Parwathi) and as so often with such a set-up, the hotel is a real labour of love.
The Matahari's gardens are beautiful and very Balinese, with lots of statues and tropical greenery.
There's some great snorkelling about 5 minutes away on a man-made reef and it's also only a short hop to Menjangan Island, one of Bali's best snorkelling and dive sites.
Bear in mind
The Matahari is about 40 miles west of Singaraja, which is the main resort town on the north coast. Rooms have no TV’s (but they do have a CD).
Rooms at Matahari are set in single storey bungalows (2 rooms per bungalow) and have beautiful marble terraces. They differ in location, size and features.
There is a choice of Bungalows between Garden View (20), Premium Garden View (6), Deluxe Bungalows (4) and Super Deluxe Bungalows (2).
They all have a two-winged hand-carved Balinese door through which you enter the bed-living-room. This room is decorated in warm colours with elegant and richly ornamented wooden furniture, a king-size Balinese bed or two separate beds, and a parquet floor.
There is a marble bathroom and a tropical back garden with a shower shaped like a water spouting Balinese dragon, great for showering under the open sky.
Deluxe & Super Deluxe Bungalows also have double wash basins Super Deluxe Bungalows have a separate pavilion in the centre of a lotus pond.

Leon Beach Bistro
Enjoy Balinese and western creations prepared right at your table in the relaxed beach atmosphere of Leon Beach Bistro. The beach bistro is a place for more standard Asian and Western meals.
Private Dining
Matahari will host a private dinner celebration according to your wishes in one of the Romantic Oceanside Pavilions.
Wayang Cocktail Bar
The interior of the bar is decorated with traditional handmade stone carvings, telling Balinese historic stories.
Yoga class
Matahari offers Asthanga yoga, to build strength, flexibility, and stamina. Ashtanga yoga offers a fast paced series of sequential poses beginning with sun salutations. Complimentary daily yoga classes start at 8:00 AM in the Buddha Pavilion by the beach.
Cooking Class
Start your day with a visit to the local market with Chef Komang Sujana, who will introduce you to the secrets of Balinese cuisine.
Under his professional guidance, prepare your own Balinese menu in the open-air kitchen at the beach. Return with a personal certificate and a carefully selected collection of recipes to surprise your friends and family at home.
