Beijing, Xian and most of northern China is still in the grip of winter, with snow and freezing temperatures not uncommon. Beijing suffers from average zero degree temperatures in March.

As the month progresses temperatures generally improve although March is quite a variable month. Sandstorms are common and it can be quite windy.

Sunshine, clear skies and warmer weather are typical of Shanghai in March. It’s a good time to be in Shanghai, but still be prepared for cold. The average temperature towards the end of March is still only around 13 degrees.
