Noordin Mews is a 16-room heritage boutique hotel in Penang, just 10 minutes walks from Georgetown’s Street of Harmony which links Penang’s most iconic landmarks.
Set in a walled tropical garden with its own private swimming pool, Noordin Mews’ main building is a classic 1920’s Peranakan shop-house in Straits eclectic style.
A sense of history pervades - the hotel has its own laneway Mews, originally for trishaws and hand carts as well as the servants quarters for the wealthy families who lived in Noordin Street in the early 1900’s.
What’s so Special?
Noordin Mews is another boutique heritage hotel from award winning hotelier Christopher Ong who also designed and owns Clove Hall in Penang and Galle Fort Hotel in Sri Lanka.
Noordin Street was famous in the 1950’s and 60’s as the home of the Wembley Cinema; a diverse amusement centre offering shows, movies, bumper cars, billiards, pinball arcades and dance halls – quite a thriving venue.
Noordin Mews takes its inspiration from the Wembley, a celebration of popular period Asian cinema, stars and fashion of the period.
There are just 16 rooms at Noordin Mews each featuring restored retro fittings and furniture and bathrooms featuring gorgeous antique tiles.
Mews Downstairs and Mews Upstairs Rooms
These 32.5 square metre rooms feature one King-size Bed one Daybed or Single Bed. Interiors are inspired by old Shanghai of the 1950’s with a retro feel, warmed by polished timber floorboards.
Noordin Suite
The Noordin Suite offers homely traditional Shanghai-style living quarters. Sunlight warms up the polished timber-tiled room, taking you back to a simpler time.
Sultan Suite
This room consists of two connecting rooms with two King Size and one single bed and two en-suite bathrooms, making this a great choice for a family of five.
