Nxai Pan lies just north of the Maun-Nata Road and adjoins Makgadigadi National Park on its northern border.
Nxai Pan Camp is a safari camp in Nxai Pan, with just eight purpose built desert tents over-looking a waterhole on the edge of the Nxai Pan.
The pans were once part of the great lake that covered central Botswana and are now a spectacular landscape covered by grassland and dotted with acacia trees. A stay at Nxai Pans offers the chance to discover this unique landscape.
All tents at Nxai Pan Camp have en-suite bathrooms with an outdoor shower and private viewing decks.
The main area of the camp comprises a dining room, lounge area and viewing deck.
There is also a swimming pool and curio shop and all the tents connect with the main area by slightly raised walkways.
Activities at Nxai Pan Camp focus on game drives in open 4x4 vehicles.
What’s so Special?
Nxai Pan is well known for its huge springbok and oryx population and is the only natural location where springbok and impala cohabitate.
Once the rains start (November to March), zebra, gemsbok and elephant migrate to the area in thousands, attracting many predators, such as lion, cheetah, leopard, jackal, wild dog and the elusive brown hyena.
In 1861, the painter Thomas Baines, painted a group of unusual baobab trees which have since become known as ‘Baines Baobabs’. A visit to these ancient giants is a real highlight of a stay at Nxai Pan Camp.
Nxai Pan has also achieved fame from the IMAX movie “Roar” – where Tim Liversedge and National Geographic filmed this epic documentary that showcases a battle between an aging lion and a young challenger.
