Vamizi is a 12 km long crescent shaped island in the north of Mozambique’s Quirimbas Archipelago, not far from the Tanzanian border.

This is a remote, off the beaten track Indian Ocean island with lush vegetation and white sandy beaches fringing an azure blue sea and extensive coral reef.

Set on the seemingly endless Perinet Beach, Vamizi Island Resort has ten luxury chalets, tucked into the vegetation and overlooking the ocean. The chalets at Vamizi Island Resort are spacious, beautifully furnished and offer the ultimate in barefoot luxury.

The spacious guest areas at Vamizi are slightly elevated and offer sweeping views over the Indian Ocean.

What’s so Special?

The seafood is fantastic here, as you may expect, and there is no more romantic location then a table on the sand with the sea lapping at your feet.

The coral reef at Vamizi Island is excellent and offers great snorkeling very close to the beach.

The standard of accommodation here is very high, and Vamizi Island Resort is well worth the effort of getting there.

Table on the sand, sumptuous seafood, the sea lapping at your feet.

Vamizi Islands' coral reef offers great snorkelling within easy access from the beach.

Villas

Each villa at Vamizi is set on its own little stretch of beach – each with fantastic ocean views.

There are just 15 one and two bedroom villas.

Villas are very spacious (170 sq. m.) with wooden floors, sofas and private deck.

The villas are all about barefoot luxury so there are no tv’s or air-con (though there are fans and the open plan design and beachfront location means cooling sea breezes).

Villas do offer tea and coffee making facilities (some things you can’t do without!).

Fresh seafood at Vamizi is an absolute highlight, with dining just feet awake from the lapping sea.

During the day, dine in the thatched open dining room on the main beach, or choose to retreat to Muntu Nkulu, a castaway restaurant open during the winter season on the north side of the island – offering buffet dining and total relaxation.

Vamizi also offers private dining in secluded locations -  alone with a shipwrecked picnic on some deserted beach.

Evenings are a more glamorous affair, with a castaway twist, fuelled by grills on the beach, or more elaborate dishes under lantern light in the dining room.

With cocktails and fine wines at the bar - and acres of cushions and sofas for sitting very soft at any point – evening are primed for romance.

The Sea

Webbed feet would be an advantage, though not essential, on this crescent island that is a springboard for some of the best diving, fishing and beach life in the world.

The island’s near perfect white coral beaches and breathtakingly beautiful shallows are just the tip of the tropical iceberg.

Beneath the surface of the Vamizi seas is an outstanding reefscape - mountains, valleys, plateaux and cliffs- teeming with a bewildering amount of sea life, from whales, dolphins, turtles and reef sharks to gregorian corals and giant clams.

Vamizi Island lies right by the point where the south equatorial current splits.

The emergent cool and warm currents sustain unusually large amounts of microscopic plankton and krill, a major food source that supports a vast array of species – up to 46 types of coral and over 400 species of fish, alone.

A glance at a marine map reveals another deep Vamizi secret: a sheer walled canyon that slips down to a kilometre below, meandering along the island’s eastern edge, providing dive sites beyond compare and coral habitats that have been deemed amongst the healthiest reef systems anywhere.

Simply put, whether you want to dive, fish, swim or bob, this is the place.
