Kafue National Park
Kafue National Park is the oldest and by far the largest of Zambia’s National Parks.
Kafue has remained undeveloped and is still a raw and diverse slice of African wilderness with excellent game viewing, birdwatching and fishing.
Kafue National Park has tropical rivers full of hippo and crocodile, vast floodplains with herds of puku and lechwe and islands of fig trees, where lions are found up in the branches.
Kafue National Park sustains a diverse wildlife and offers great walking safaris, canoe trips and game drives.

Kafue National Park
Located in the middle of western Zambia, Kafue National Park is the largest of Zambia’s national parks.
Kafue was founded 1950’s by Norman Carr, a famous figure in Zambian tourism.
Kafue is one of Africa’s largest national parks and is very accessible from Livingstone, which is just a two-hour drive away.
Kafue remains little-visited and much of the park is unexplored with large areas still untouched.
Thanks to its size and variety of habitat types the Kafue holds a fantastic diversity of wildlife.
The wildlife in Kafue is now enjoying a higher level of protection by the Zambian Wildlife Authority, always aided and supported by the operators in and adjoining the park.
Highlights of Kafue:
- Kafue epitomises all the remote, wild and diverse characteristics of the Zambian wilderness
- The vast Busanga Plains are perhaps the prime wildlife viewing destination in the country
- Despite its remoteness, Kafue is easily accessible from both Lusaka and Livingstone
- Walking Safaris in Kafue are excellent and night drives in the National Park are also a highlight of a Kafue Safari.
Kafue with Wilderness Safaris
Kafue National Park, one of the largest in Africa, has many varied habitats: the Kafue, Lufupa and Lunga rivers with adjoining peaceful stretches of riverine vegetation, dambos and wetlands, extensive miombo woodland with seasonal floodplains and swampland in the north.
Owing to this diversity, Kafue is blessed in wildlife.
Where to stay in Kafue National Park:
Kafue Park has seen a few new Safari Camps and Lodges established in recent years, which has brought about some infrastructure improvements with a number of well-graded roads and airstrips.
