Borneo Family Holiday

This Borneo family holiday combines a short wildlife tour into Borneo's premier wildlife viewing area with a 7-night stay in a family friendly beach resort in Borneo.

Fly to Sandakan where you'll have an overnight for your first night in Borneo.

The next morning you'll be taken to the Orangutan Sanctuary at Sepilok where wild orangutans are being nursed back to life in the wild.

See the orangutans as they emerge from the forest at feeding time in the mid-morning. Also visit the Sun Bear Sanctuary.

From here embark on a journey into the Kinabatangan River area of Borneo.

Spend two nights at the award winning Sukau Rainforest Lodge.

Enjoy river safaris by electric boat in search of proboscis monkeys, hornbills and other wildlife.

From Sukau, return to Sandakan and fly back to Kota Kinabalu for a 7-night stay at the Shangri-la Rasa Ria Resort.

The Shangri-la has Family Rooms, a Kid's Club and lots of activities for children including ranger programs - as well as large swimming pools and a safe swimming beach.

We have included Half Board at the Shangri La. You also have a 2-hour morning ranger program included alongside some other inclusions for the kids.

Shangri La Rasa Ria

Occupying a prime stretch of beach fronting the South China Sea about 40 minutes drive from the Borneo’s Kota Kinabalu Airport, the Shangri-La Rasa Ria Resort & Spa occupies a secluded beachfront location touching the edge of the Borneo jungle.

Accommodation ranges from Superior Rooms overlooking the rainforest to the more luxurious Ocean Wing.

Renovations in recent years have left the Rasa Ria looking better than ever.

One of the highlights of the Shangri La Rasa Ria is the adjoining nature reserve which kids in particular love.

Wildlife

Please note that as all the animals are in a wild natural habitat there is no 100% guarantee of seeing them.

It is almost guaranteed to see orangutans at Sepilok however and probosics monkeys are extremely common along the Kinabatangan River.

Other wildlife such as elephants are less common but are still frequently spotted, especially around Abai.

Hornbills are common and you would be unlucky not to see some and they are a magnificent sight, especially in flight over the canopy of trees.

When visiting Sepilok Orangutan Sanctuary please take note of the park guides.

Orangutans are curious by nature and don't think twice about waltzing off with unguarded items. Especially - don't take food into the park with you.

Note that the cruises along the river from Sukau are in electric boats.
