This overnight cruise from Bangkok is a superb way to enjoy a romantic river journey, see historic Ayuthaya, the Royal Summer Palace, enjoy spectacular views of the Grand Palace and the Temple of Dawn and observe rural life along the river.

The Mekhala is a converted rice barge, which cruises overnight from the heart of Bangkok along the Chao Phraya River, docking overnight near a Buddhist Monastery and Mon village.

Day 1: Bangkok–Mekhala

Transfer from your hotel to board the Mekhala around 1:30 pm.

The Mekhala departs around 2:30 for the cruise up the Chao Phraya River arriving at Pathum Thani in the afternoon. Visit a fresh market where local people shop for food, fresh produce and a variety of Thai sweets.

Just after dark the Mekhala docks at a Thai temple set in a tranquil rural village. An exquisite candlelit Thai dinner is served on the deck.

Overnight on board near Wat Kai Tia. Dinner included.

Day 2: Mekhala–Ayuthaya–Bangkok

Start the day by cruising to the small village of Baan Saladang, an old Mon community who migrated from Burma in the early 19th century. The villagers here have successfully maintained their traditional life style, customs and natural surroundings. The village is home to well-preserved typical Thai houses.

A delicious breakfast is served on board before departing for Bang Pa-In where your guide will take you to visit the Summer Palace. Continue by long tail boat to the Ancient Capital of Ayuthaya.

After lunch at a local restaurant, visit the idyllic ruins of the once glorious capital destroyed by the Burmese. In the late afternoon, return to your hotel in Bangkok by air-conditioned minibus.

Arrive in Bangkok and transfer to your hotel around 4 pm.
