Mae Hong Son is both the name of the 'city' and the province in the far North West of Thailand, bordering the Shan State of Burma.

Reached in a few hours by car or a 30-minute flight from Chiang Mai, Mae Hong Son is an attractive and likeable town set around a small 'lake' overlooked by a beautiful Burmese inspired temple.

Mae Hong Son acts as a base for exploring this quite remote and beautiful mountainous region of Thailand which is home to several different hilltribe peoples including the Shan, Karen, Hmong, Lisa and Lahu amongst others.
