A few things we’re noticing about travel in 2026

Here are a few patterns we’re seeing that are shaping when it makes sense to book - and why Canada could be a particularly good option this summer.

LAOS MEKONG RIVER CRUISE

Booking early still matters, just not in the way it used to

For a long time, booking as early as possible was the best way to get the lowest flight prices.  That's no longer always the case.  On many routes, airlines now release higher fares first knowing there's demand from people keen to secure something early.  What we're often seeing is a better balance of price and availability around six to nine months before travel.

At the same time, the better hotels and room types are selling out earlier than ever, particularly in the most popular areas. So rather than waiting, the key is to book in a way that keeps your options open.

Most of our trips use IT package fares, which allow us to secure your flights now, while retaining the flexibility to take advantage of any lower sale fares that may come out later. At the same time, we can lock in the hotels and room types you actually want, before availability becomes more limited.

This matters most for river cruises, wildlife lodges and itineraries built around unique properties that fill up well in advance.

ROCKY MOUNTAINEER, CANADIAN ROCKIES

Major events don't always mean crowded destinations. Not if you know where to go

When a country is hosting a major event, the instinct is often to avoid it. People assume everything will be busier, more expensive and harder work - and so they book elsewhere.

That assumption creates an opportunity. With a significant number of travellers steering clear of Canada this summer because of the World Cup, many parts of the country are likely to feel quieter than usual. Hotels that are normally hard to secure are more available. Popular routes and national parks will have fewer visitors.

The Rockies, the lakes and the wider Pacific region are well away from the match venues and stand to benefit most from this effect. It may well be one of the better summers to visit - precisely because so many people have decided not to

Good planning takes longer than a few minutes, and it's worth it

It's very easy to generate an itinerary now. A few minutes online - or a quick run through an AI tool - can produce something that looks convincing on paper.

The problem is that travel looks different in real life. We regularly see itineraries that involve too much moving around, long travel days that don't add much, or routes that double back on themselves. They look fine on screen, but they can be tiring and disappointing in practice.

The trips that work best are shaped through conversation. Clients bring their ideas and priorities. We bring nearly 20 years of experience, local knowledge, and a sense of what will actually work once you're on the ground.

If you'd like to talk things through, we're always happy to help - even if your plans are still at the early stages.
