The Bivou is a charming boutique hotel in Lijiang built around the notion that modern adventurers have modern needs: comfort, sustainability, authenticity and style.
The Bivou Lijiang is a designer guesthouse for the modern adventurer.
Housed within two historic farmyards built by the area’s Naxi minority tribe, Bivou’s 16 rooms look out over private gardens landscaped to reflect the full colour and fragrances of the changing seasons.
The Bivou Lijiang is located in Lijiang, just a minute away from the historic village square of ancient Shuhe.
Much older even than Lijiang Old Town itself (which is only a short ride away), Shuhe Village preserves much of the original tranquillity which first enticed travellers to the region.
The Bivou (named after ‘bivouac’) is housed in a restored century-old Naxi farmyard at the foot of Yulong Mountain.
The lodge is perched on the edge of the sacred waters of the Jiudinglongtan Spring, overlooking vegetable patches tended daily by local farmers, with a stunning view of Yulong Mountain beyond.
Rooms have unique Bivou touches and a designer aesthetic which wouldn’t be out of place in Shanghai or New York. Who says adventure travel can’t be stylish?
What’s so Special?
The Bivou was borne out of a simple idea: an authentic and sustainable adventure lodge, setting new standards in comfort and style. Bivou is about adventure, and simplicity.
Built around houses that have stood on the site for over a hundred years, The Bivou stays true to its roots and celebrates the authentic building techniques of the local villagers.
At the same time, sustainability lies at the core of the Bivou: from the use of bamboo floors in the interiors, to the installation of super-efficient LED lighting throughout the lodge.
Solar panels provide renewable heat to all guest rooms, and insulated glass ensures maximum comfort within even during cold nights.
The Bivou has a mixture of designer rooms and suites clustered around two lushly landscaped courtyards, as well as a fully self-contained villa perfect for a family.
To the west, the Farm Yard mirrors the ever-changing scenes of the surrounding fields; to the east, the Garden Yard brings together the best of Yunnan’s famous blooms.
Guests staying at the villa also get to enjoy their own private garden, planted with lush beds of rhododendrons and camellias.
The Bivou is proud to offer a smoke-free environment on its premises.

All room prices include two daily breakfasts made using seasonal ingredients from the Bivou’s own vegetable gardens and from local farms.

The Farm Yard Large Suite (60 sq. m) has 2 Queen-size beds, a lounge and a dining area and kitchenette (with Nespresso machine).
Garden Villa
The Garden Villa (120 sq. m) has 1 twin bedroom, 1 master suite and can fit 2 extra singles on request. The Villa features a Garden lounge and full kitchen (with Nespresso machine).
The Upper floor has a viewing lounge and reading room and there is a private garden.
The Bivou Cafe
The Bivou Cafe offers a full day-to-night menu featuring the freshest seasonal ingredients and exciting new creations.
Open between 12 and 9 pm, try the famous Bivou Breakfast, featuring homemade jams and pastries!
Changing Seasons
In spring, The Bivou and its environs burst into a riot of colours as cherry and apricot trees, as well as rose and rapeseed flowers blossom.
In summer, delectable mushrooms and fruit trees ripen for the picking, while horse riding through verdant meadows of wild flowers is an activity not to be missed.
In fall, sunflowers carpet the valley and perfect blue skies make hiking a dream.
In winter, migrating birds from Siberia flock in the thousands to highland lakes. There is never a dull season at The Bivou.
