Chitwa Chitwa offers an eclectic blend of European style and African chic, in one of the best luxury game lodges in South Africa, located in the northern Sabi Sands bordering the Kruger National Park.

Chitwa Chitwa is more than just a luxury private game lodge. It’s a holistic and sensorial experience, which starts at sunrise and captures the very essence of the magnificent wildlife heritage and natural landscape of Africa before sunset.

Originally a private retreat of the Brink family, Chitwa Chitwa has been a family run game lodge since 1991 when it was transformed by owners Charl and Maria, who still remain very present and dedicated to the lodge.

Chitwa Chitwa now stands as an emblem of the savannah’s most authentic and refined luxury.

Each of the 6 Chitwa Suites blends unpretentious style and complete comfort blend, with private lake-view decks.

Chitwa Chitwa is a great option for a luxury game lodge for families, as suites can accommodate 2 additional beds.

What’s so Special?

Chitwa Chitwa earned its name as an affectionate ode to the ageing giraffe who shared the lakeside home as an extended member of the Brink family. According to Charl, the majestic arrival of this regal relative was always signalled by the creaking of his old joints.

Much like this giraffe, the lodge is magnificent and graceful in appearance, yet humble enough to evaporate into the surrounding beauty of the unspoiled bush of the Sabi Sand.

Bear in mind

The Sabi Sand Reserve falls within a malaria area and anti malarial prophylactics are highly recommended.

Chitwa Chitwa offers standard and inclusive rates. Inclusive rates include local beer and spirits and the Chitwa House Wine Selection, while the standard rates exclude alcoholic drinks.

Chitwa is child-friendly and children aged 6 and above are permitted on safari (under 6 years permitted if a private vehicle is taken).

Each of the six individually decorated suites open onto a private lake-view deck with its own private plunge pool, framed by a spacious timber deck that overlooks the nearby lake – a popular drinking hole for our wealth of wildlife.

The luxury suites are very spacious (130 to 180 sq. m.) and can accommodate up to 2 extra beds for children under-12.

Charlsy Suite

The Charlsy Suite is in a spectacular location and is the ideal place for families or friends travelling together.

It consists of two incredibly luxurious suite style rooms each with own dressing area, sitting area and spacious bathrooms which include free standing bathtubs, indoor rain and out door showers as well separate toilet.

The two suites are inter-connected by a middle lounge area and with glass fronted ceiling to floor walls, slide open on to an expansive deck area where you have sunloungers and plunge pool.

Features:

  • Air con & Ceiling Fan
  • Heated towel rails
  • Minibar
  • Fridge
  • Fireplace
  • Tea & coffee making facilities
  • iPod docking station

Dining

Enjoy drinks under the African stars and meals in the traditional boma.

At Chitwa Chitwa, meals are as much a social feast as a culinary one, designed to create a relaxed atmosphere for sharing in the day’s excitement.

Lunch and breakfast are served next to the pool in the thatched lapa overlooking the lake, while dinners are served in the open-air boma around a roaring fire or in the elegant and stylish dining room.

Dining experiences are varied. Drinks can be enjoyed in the lounge bar or in the unique underground wine cellar built around the natural granite rock floor.

The wine cellar stocks selected South African and imported wines, adding to the unique Mediterranean and African cross-culture cuisine that Chitwa Chitwa is famous for.

A typical day in the African bush is often concluded with a sumptuous feast in the ‘boma’, which is the word for ‘enclosure’ in Shangaan. Dine under the stars by the enchanting glimmer of fire and candlelight and share in an integral part of traditional African culture.

Elaborate, authentic boma dinners are accompanied by a sought after wine-list to complete a unique Chitwa Chitwa culinary experience.

Activities

Venture deep into the wilderness on game drives or on bush walks to witness the Big 5 and Africa’s other magnificent animals right up close.

Look out for the elusive leopard and wild dog for a truly memorable safari experience.

Enjoy cooling dips in the lodge swimming pool or your private plunge pool and soothing massages and treatments in the Spa.
