Cape Wine Lands Drive
This delightful drive winds its way through superb mountain ranges, vineyards and Cape Dutch homesteads. Your first stop is Stellenbosch, the second oldest town in South Africa, with canal lined avenues, and magnificent Cape Dutch architecture.
Enjoy your first wine tasting here, coupled with a chocolate and dessert tasting. Onward over the scenic Helshoogte Pass, to Franschhoek, founded by French Huguenots over 350 years ago, and widely regarded as the culinary capital of South Africa.
Its beautiful setting and café lined streets will charm you and a further wine tasting is included at one of the renowned estates in this area.
Your final stop is at the town of Paarl, at the foot of a cluster of remarkable granite domes where you do your last wine tasting of the day, before heading back to Cape Town.

Stellenbosch
Stellenbosch is probably the Cape Winelands most famous destination and the second oldest settlement ion South Africa. With a mix of charming Cape Dutch architecture and a vibrant student scene, Stellenbosch is a larger town with a real buzz.
There are dozens of wineries around Stellenbosch to choose from including the popular Spier, which also offers horse riding, some great restaurants and a bird of prey show.
Vergelen is one of the most beautiful wineries in South Africa and combines majestic views with elegant historic buildings.
Franschhoek
Franschhoek was founded by French Hugenots in the 1600's and retains a distinctly French feel. Franschhoek is a small Winelands town with a population of around 15,000 and is the gastronomic capital of the Western Cape.
Franschhoek is one of the most beautiful small towns in South Africa and offers some great Cape Winelands boutique hotels and some excellent small art galleries to go with the wineries and restaurants.
Paarl
Paarl is a large Cape Winelands town, set amongst a beautiful landscape of mountains, vineyards and the meandering Berg River. Restaurants and vineyard are plentiful of course and Cape Dutch architecture is a highlight.
The name 'Paarl' meaning 'pearl' comes from the granite domes of the nearby Paarl Mountain Nature Reserve which have a pearl like sheen in the wet.
KWV Emporium is a highly recommended winery near Paarl, which produces some of the world's best fortified wines. Ballooning over the Cape Winelands from Paarl is a great way to experience the beautiful landscape of this region of South Africa.
Wellington
Wellington is a great alternative to more touristy Paarl for those looking to get a little bit off the beaten track in the Cape Winelands.
The wineries here are quieter than those closer to Paarl which is just 10km away. A superb drive here is along the Bainskloof Pass.
