Confused about El Nido Resorts?
We've been to all of them
El Nido Apulit Island
El Nido’s Apulit Island Resort, in Palawans’ northern tip, is an idyllic getaway for those looking for an archetypal exotic tropical hideaway resort.
Reached by short flight from Manila, a drive and a boat transfer or by a 4-hour scenic drive from Puerto Princesa, El Nido Apulit Resort is an off-the-beaten-track hideaway in the Philippines.
Apulit Island Resort sprawls across a pristine cove on Apulit Bay, with a curve of golden-sand beach lined with coconut trees. El Nido Apulit’s location is pristine and unspoiled, with scenic views on land and water and some superb snorkelling on nearby islands and on the house reef.
El Nido Apulit Island Resort’s 50 water cottages are set on stilts over the clear water of Apulit Bay. Step right off the steps of one of the loft villas for a cooling dip. Choose between Water Cottages (for two) and Loft Water Cottages (for four), which are ideal for families.
El Nido Apulit has a house reef, which teems with marine life, ideal for snorkelling. For those not keen on swimming in the sea, El Nido Apulit also has a nice little swimming pool. Activities included at Apulit include abseiling down the limestone cliffs, island hopping trips and sea kayaking excursions.
All meals are included on a buffet basis at the casual beachfront semi al-fresco restaurant.
What’s so Special?
The location is really stunning amongst the limestone seascapes of northern Palawan. The location is isolated and has a ‘club’ like ambience without being at all pretentious. The staff are superb.
The active and daring may be tempted by the chance to rappel down the 60-metre high limestone cliff backing the resort.
Bear in mind
It’s a little bit of a journey to get there but well worth it. Getting to El Nido Apulit usually involves a 75-minute flight from Manila. We strongly suggest breaking the journey from the UK with a city stop en-route or with a night in Manila (sometimes necessary depending on schedules). Alternatively combine a stay here with a few nights elsewhere in the Philippines.
There is only one flight a day to El Nido with Trans Voyager, which is followed by a one hour drive and a one hour resort boat ride to the resort. The baggage allowance for the domestic flight is only 10 kg per person including hand baggage. So pack light (you won’t need much anyway) or bear in mind that there is an excess baggage fee (it’s not expensive).
The cottages are cute, with wooden floors and thatched ceilings and a nice balcony but don’t expect super modern luxury. There are no TV’s, there is no Wi-Fi in the rooms and the bathrooms in the Water Cottages are ‘compact’.
At 26 sq. m. in size, the Water Cottages aren’t especially large and can only accommodate two. Loft Water Cottages are more than twice the size however and can accommodate a family of four.
Apulit Island Resort has 50 cottages that combine traditional Filipino architectural style with contemporary design.
Cottages are built on stilts, perched above the sea with an unobstructed view of Palawan’s azure Taytay Bay, surrounding islands, and dramatic limestone cliffs.
Water Cottage
The 30 Water Cottages (26 sq. m.) are ideal for couples and are built on stilts with a private veranda overlooking the bay around the main cove of the island.
Loft Water Cottage
The 20 Loft Water Cottages (60 sq. m.) are built in two clusters of 10 on the Western Cove and feature a loft and a staircase offering direct access to the water underneath the rooms.
A double bed is set-up in the loft and two daybeds may be set-up on the ground floor.
Dining
Apulit Island offers al fresco dining with an international menu at the Clubhouse restaurant. The emphasis is on sustainable, organic cuisine with fresh seafood is a highlight.
A private picnic lunch may be arranged at the West Beach and at nearby Isla Blanca.
Romantic on the beach dining is an option also. Powder-soft sand on your feet, and the sound of waves gently lapping at the beach create a memorable dining experience under the stars.
Private dining venues include the beach, Billionaire’s Garden, Rock Bar, Serena Bar, or Octagon Pier.
The Beach Bar is a popular spot.
Facilities
El Nido Apulit is a resort where guests are unlikely to ever feel bored or at a loss for things to do.
Adventurous activities on offer include abseiling (rapelling) down one of the sheer limestone cliffs surrounding the bay.
Early morning kayaking expeditions are popular and snorkelling is great just off the beach. Baby sharks (a foot long) proliferate beneath the cottages.
