Lisu Lodge
Lisu Lodge offers a cultural and adventure experience within relatively easy access from Chiang Mai.
Named after the Lisu hill tribe village that is found near the lodge, the lodge is also part of a community-based project that aims to conserve the natural heritage of the hill tribes in Chiang Mai.
The lodge is operated by Lisu hill tribe villagers who will take care of you during your stay.
Additionally, tours and activities at the lodge are run by the villagers or local tour operators whilst food is locally sourced and fetched from the organic rice fields and vegetable garden.
Built in traditional Lisu style with an eye for western comforts, the lodge has 4 guest cottages with a total of 20 guest rooms and 2 studio rooms.
The guest cottages overlook the lush fields and hills surrounding the valley. Each guest room has an en-suite bathroom.

Day 1 Lisu Lodge
You will be collected from your hotel in Chiang Mai and transferred to the Lisu Lodge.
On arrival at the lodge, around 10 am, you will be greeted with a welcome drink and the Lisu guide will take you for a walk in the village.
Your first visit is to Ton Lung temple, a place where local people go for spiritual guidance. The temple’s herbal garden has many medicinal plants that are used by the villagers.
Your next stop is the shaman's house. You will have a cup of tea and chat with him about his spiritual practice.
Return to Lisu Lodge for a tasty Thai Lunch. After lunch, visit the rice paddies and walk with your guide through rice paddies, where rice is grown without the use of pesticides or insecticides.
Learn and participate in the various stages of rice cultivation in northern Thai style.
Visit Himmapaan nursery and learn about the flora of northern Thailand and how the forest eco-system is being restored.
Visit the vegetable garden where organic fertilizer is being produced from leftover organic waste.
During the afternoon you have a choice of activities:
- Guided bike tour around the Lisu Lodge area
- Steam bath
- Thai Massage
- Ox-cart ride through farmlands and orchards to the Thai village of Baan Pang Mai Daeng - about an hour ending up back at Lisu Lodge
Spend the rest of the day at leisure. In the evening, enjoy delicious Thai dinner and watch a traditional Lisu dance.

Day 2 Lisu Lodge - Khum Lanna
After breakfast at the Lodge, start an exciting day with an easy 13 kilometers (8 miles) of cycling to Muang Guert village.
En-route stop at a tea plantation to relax and enjoy the magnificent landscape.
Here you will be led by an experienced guide who will introduce you to the process of growing and harvesting tea, whilst teaching you how to pluck tea leaves before enjoying a cup of freshly brewed tea.
After you finish the activity, you will check out from Khum Lanna and return to Chiang Mai.
Continue cycling to a rafting station and after a healthy picnic lunch by the river, enjoy on an exciting ride, about 45 minutes of white water rafting that takes you to a Thai country village.
From there, proceed to Khum Lanna, enjoy a refreshing herbal tea or fruit juice before checking in to your room.
At a Thai cooking lesson in the evening, you will receive a “Khum Lanna Thai Recipe Book” detailing many delicious recipes, plus the herbs used and the health benefits of each.
Enjoy a lesson in preparing an authentic Thai meal (4 dishes). All the major ingredients in Thai cuisine are introduced along with the concept of balancing the 5-flavor groups.
Enjoy the Thai dinner that you helped to prepare yourself.

Day 3 Khum Lanna
Coffee and tea will be brought to your room before sunrise.
Start the day with a biking tour on a country road to a local market. Here, you will get the chance to try local coffee and buy local cookies and flower garlands to offer to the monks.
Visit a rice and traditional tool shop where you will learn about a history of Thai rice and the different properties and varieties of rice.
Cycle back to Khum Lanna with a stop at a Buddhist temple to see a locally respected Buddha statue enshrined under the tree. Return to Khum Lanna for breakfast.
The chef will work with you side-by-side to show you how to cook sticky rice.
After breakfast enjoy time free to visit the small museum exhibiting different types of ancient rice-farming equipment.
You will have the opportunity to collect herbs and vegetables from the garden and use them in your next cooking class.
Lunch is a country style barbecue, sticky rice which you prepared earlier and other local dishes.
From 2 - 4 pm, choose one of the exciting activities:
- A guided biking tour around Khum Lanna countryside.
- Creative Fruit (or vegetable) carving.
- A local herbal steam bath to relax and rejuvenate your body.
- A therapeutic hot-pressed herbal massage (consisting of 8 kinds of herbs: ginger, zingier, lemon grass, plantain, tamarind leaves, soap pod, camphor and Aom Kiew).
