Luang Say Residence is a colonial era inspired 24-room luxury boutique hotel in Luang Prabang, occupying a large area of land just 5 minutes from the historic centre of town.
Luang Say Residence offers discreet luxury in a boutique hotel full of character and delight, which harks back to the European explorers who brought this beautiful part of Asia to the attention of the west.
At the heart of a lush tropical garden, the Luang Say Residence consists of a central mansion surrounded by large verandas with 5 white pavilions around it containing most of the Suites.
The Foyer of the hotel sets the tone, with an ancient standing counter, antique clock, vintage Marelli fans, replica Laotian water jars, a round velvet sofa, diagonal tiling and low lamps providing intimate lighting.
The tropical botanic garden with lily ponds, palms and hibiscus is like a compendium of local botany, and a welcome retreat in which to soak in the atmosphere and watch the butterflies flutter by. The slate pool is large and inviting, with explorer style rattan umbrellas for sunshades.
Luxurious suites, located on the ground or 1st floor of the two-storeyed pavilions are very spacious and continue the colonial theme with vintage prints, wooden furniture and sliding doors opening on to large terraces.
What’s so Special?
Luang Say Residence is the sister hotel to the Wat Phou Cruise in southern Laos and to the Luang Say Cruise and Lodge further north along the river towards the Thai border.
A combination of all four options is a popular way to tour the country from north to south.
The Luang Say Residence is an invitation to walk in the steps of the early French explorers.
Precious wood furniture, vintage prints, butterfly collections and local hunting weapons serve as a reminder of these early explorers: botanists, ethnologists, photographers and artists who attempted to tame the mystical river from Cochinchine to Yunnan, at the end of the 19th century.
We like the library, which has dozens of books on the history of Laos and opens on to a terrace overlooking the swimming pool and the distant hills beyond.
