Rachamankha
Rachamankha Boutique Hotel
Owned by two of Thailand's most famous designers and architects, Rachamankha Hotel Chiang Mai is a treasury of Lanna art and Chinese antiquities, which can be found in every guest room and throughout the hotel.
Rachamankha’s combination of Lanna art and interior design, and the temple style architecture has created a haven of peace – a really lovely and authentic boutique hotel in Chiang Mai.
Rachamankha reflects the northern Thai “Lanna” style at every turn throughout the hotel, which is why we think Rachamankha is a great hotel to get a real sense of place and a feeling for the northern Thai culture.
Rooms are set in low-rise buildings set around spacious courtyards and a peaceful 20-metre swimming pool, lined with sunbeds and bougainvillea flowers.
What’s so Special?
The atmosphere at Rachamankha Chiang Mai is very serene and restful, the rooms are spacious and the grounds are immaculate. The sculptures, antique furniture and other artifacts give Rachamankha heaps of character.
Bear in Mind
Rachamankha is a little bit too far away to walk to Chiang Mai's Night Market, but a taxi or tuk tuk should cost under a pound each way.
Courtyard Superior
Courtyard Superior Rooms are located around the two guest area courtyards.
Each room is 32 sq. m. and is fitted with either a king size bed or twin single beds, 19th century Chinese furniture and decorated with Asian art.
Walls are made with traditional lime plaster over handmade brick, the same technique used in temples since the founding of Chiang Mai in 1296.
The founder, Rooj Changtrakul, supervises every detail of every room, from choosing antique Chinese cabinets, area rugs to the arrangement of flowers.
The common design theme is the uninhibited mix of antiques from different period around the world, from Europe, Africa, China, Burma and Thailand scattered throughout the hotel.
Grand Deluxe Room
The Grand Deluxe Rooms are the most popular rooms at Rachamankha. Located in the 2-storey building at the pool end of the hotel all rooms are 40 sq. m. with en-suite half bathrooms.
They are fitted with a silk draped canopy king size bed, 19th century Chinese furniture and decorated with Asian art.
The Grand Deluxe rooms have a spacious and romantic feel to them.
Classic Suites
Both Suites are 100 sq. m. with 2 double en-suite bedrooms, a large lounge room, and kitchenette.
Suite 26, which is situated above the Library, has a large private balcony and Suite 24, which occupies a ground floor corner position near the reception, is tucked away within a secret walled courtyard garden with private access to the hotel pool.
Features in all rooms:
- Air con
- Free Wi-Fi
- Flat screen TV with Satellite channels
- Minibar
- Tea & coffee making facilities
- IDD phone
- Hairdryer
- Safe
Dining
Large Lanna lanterns illuminate the restaurant and the walls are hung with antique paintings. The restaurant serves Thai and fusion dishes.
Next to the restaurant there is a small, shady courtyard where guests can dine outside while listening to old northern Thai music.
The cosy bar is situated next to the restaurant and is decorated with a very rare Chinese antique lacquer screen, and lithographs by Henry Moore, Robert Motherwell, and other early twentieth century painters.
Nearby Dining
Rachamankha's location in a quiet residential area of Chiang Mai means that there's not much in the way of places to eat in the close vicinity of the hotel.
The central district of Chiang Mai is about 20 minutes on foot or 4-5 minutes drive and Chiang Mai is a great city for experiencing local cuisine.
Facilities
Rachamankha has a lovely 20 metre long swimming pool lined with sun beds and bougainvillea.
