Kratie (pronounced Krachee) is both the name of a tiny town on the banks of the Mekong River and a province in Northeast Cambodia.
Firmly on the backpackers trail but not on the mainstream visitor’s agenda, a visit to Kratie has some interesting sights to offer.
Visitors come here to see the Irrawaddy dolphins, to admire the jungle scenery and to see Phnom Sombok, a hill temple just north of town.
This is a sparsely populated region of Cambodia and things are very quiet and sleepy – a great place to slow down the pace and discover rural Cambodia.
