Take a journey from antiquity to the present day in the northern Greek region of Thessaly.
According to Greek mythology, Thessaly is the land of the mythical Centaurs; the birthplace of Achilles, the hero of the Trojan War; the father of Medicine, Asclepius; and the area where the battle between the Titans and the Olympian gods took place.
Many visitors head to Mount Olympus or to one of the Sporades Islands (Skiathos, Skopelos, Alonnisos).
Perhaps the main attraction is the spectacular monastery of Meteora, splendidly inaccessible on a rounded hilltop on the Thessalian plain.
