Day 1: UK – Nicaragua
Fly from the UK to Nicaragua.
On arrival at Managua International Airport you will be met and transferred to Nekupe Resort.
It's a scenic 2-hour drive to Nekupe Sporting Resort and Retreat: Nicaragua’s first and most luxurious countryside getaway, set on a 1,300-acre nature reserve.
Day 2: Nekupe Resort
Enjoy the day at leisure at Nekube. There is plenty to do, from exploring the reserve on foot or via ATV, to going birdwatching or retreating to the isolated shooting range.
Consider a learning experience, from a rope class to a private cooking lesson to rum tastings; enjoy a yoga class or a spa treatment in the superb Spa.
Day 3: Nekupe Resort - Masaya Volcano
After breakfast and accompanied by a private guide and drive, head out for nearby Masaya Volcano, established in 1979 as the first national park in Nicaragua.
Your local guide will introduce you to the wonders of the Masaya Volcano, following the trails around the Santiago crater—active since 1946. You should be able to view the lava in the crater - one of the most thrilling experiences in Central America.
Next stop is Granada for a walking tour of this picturesque historic city, a mosaic of colonial churches and Spanish-style homes that come in a rainbow of colours and enjoy tiled roofs and beautiful indoor patios.
Taking lunch in a colonial house, you’ll find on the menu a delicious array of Nicaraguan traditional foods, and you’ll have time to savour Granada on your own.
Relax mid-afternoon on Lake Nicaragua during a slow boat ride among the myriads of islands and islets, treasured by birdwatchers.
The scenery and wildlife varies, but the horizon isalways dominated by dramatic Mombacho Volcano.
Return to Nekupe Resort towards sunset.
Day 4: Granada
Today, visit Granada, a beautiful colonial city founded in 1524 and one of the oldest settlements in Latin America.
After breakfast, your guide will collect you from your hotel and you'll be transferred to Granada for a walking tour of the town, starting at the beautiful main square where everyone gathers for snacks, sunning and socializing, then moving along cobbled streets lined with patrician homes.
Visit the exquisite La Merced Church and the baroque Convento San Francisco, whose museum exhibits mysterious stone carvings and idols made by pre-Columbian artisans, as well as an impressive collection of ancient statues unearthed on Ometepe Island on Lake Nicaragua.
Additionally, tour the Polvora Fortress and stop in at the Municipal Market.
Day 5: Nekupe - Mukul Resort
Enjoy the morning at leisure at Nekupe.
After lunch, transfer by private car with your driver and guide, for a delightful, three-hour transfer to your next stay along the Emerald Coast of Pacific Ocean.
Enjoy a leisurely transfer, enjoying different and new perspectives of the lovely landscapes of Nicaragua.
Stop to dip in and out of local life and happenings in towns and villages along the way: for scenic views, flower markets, for a country church visit, for ceramic shopping in an artisan’s workshop, for roadside stops for coffee or ice cream, for whatever may be specially colourfully, authentically “Nica@.
You'll be at Mukul Resort by around 4:30 pm.
Day 6: Mukul Resort
Perhaps today, or tomorrow is the day to play an 18-hole-round of golf on the lush course or indulge yourself at over-the-top-sensational Spa, actually 6 different spas—each a different themed world— at one flowering-hilltop location.
Of course anytime’s a good time to start to take in Mukul by, in and around the waters of the Pacific Ocean.
Stretch out on the private Manzanillo Beach; set off on a quick journey to Ancana Island for snorkeling and scuba diving; take a picnic to another of Mukul’s stretches of white sand, Tamarindo Beach, whose white sands are backed by hallmark cliffs; dive right into ocean action with surfboards, paddleboards, snorkel gear and kayaks at the Watersports Casita.
Day 7: Mukul Resort
Today see Nicaragua from a Birdseye viewpoint, boarding a helicopter at the Mukul landing strip, to enjoy amazing vistas whilst flying over valleys and forests to Lake Nicaragua, circling the twin peaks and craters of the iconic Maderas and Concepion Volcanoes of Ometepe Island —a designated UNESCO biosphere.
Land on the island and climb into a private 4 x 4 vehicle and drive to the slopes of Maderas Volcano.
This part of the day is pure adventure: a four-hour hike up the green slopes of Maderas Volcano to its crater lake.
Hike through the cloud forested terrain, in the company of resident birds and butterflies, as well as your local guide.
Enjoy lunch along the way, before heading down to the helicopter waiting to ferry you from Lake Nicaragua back to the Pacific Ocean.
Day 8: Mukul Resort
This may be your day to discover nature on a grand scale in and around Mukul.
Join the resort’s Aventura Rangers and get acquainted with the resort’s Turtle Watch program that preserves the native endangered Olive Ridley turtles.
Alternatively hike or ride a bike - on your own or in the company of a naturalist guide through 8 miles of nature trails, where you should see monkeys, sloths, iguanas and dozens of tropical birds.
Today you could also enjoy some water activities such as whale-watching, fishing and underwater photography?
You can visit the neighboring community of Gigagante, whose many local beachside restaurants and small businesses benefit from funding support from the Pellas family, owners of Mukul.
Plan ahead with a guide for a visit to a community farm that grows vegetables for the resort and welcomes guests to a typical Nica breakfast.
Day 9: Morgan's Rock Hacienda
Today you'll be collected from your hotel and transferred further down the coast to San Juan del Sur, for a stay at Morgan's Rock Hacienda.
Set in a private reserve, this superb Eco lodge is located on Nicaragua’s unspoilt Pacific Coast, 30 minutes’ drive from San Juan del Sur.
This 4,000-acre jungle hideaway boasts a mile-long picturesque sandy beach with beautiful bungalows overlooking the ocean or the forest.
Day 10: Morgan's Rock Hacienda
Bungalows have been carefully decorated and some of them include a private plunge pool.
The restaurant is located on a shady platform overlooking the pool, surrounded by forest, with a stellar view of the private beach and cove.
Guest can enjoy a variety of special Nicaraguan dishes as well as an array of international flavours using the finest in local ingredients.
Morgan´s Rock´s Yoga Studio is an open-air platform that embraces the forest and overlooks the ocean, creating a very unique yoga experience. Surfing lessons are also available.
Day 11: Morgan's Rock Hacienda
Morgan´s Rock Private Reserve is frequented year-round by two species of endangered turtles.
This is a unique opportunity to witness sea turtles both nesting and hatching in their natural environment.
Other animals inhabiting the jungle reserve and estuary around Morgan’s Rock include howler monkeys, macaws, anteaters, sloths and white tipped dear.
Most of the birds are typical of subtropical dry forest lands, similar to those found in the Guanacaste province of Costa Rica.
These include scarlet macaws, trogons, kingfishers, herons and egrets.
At Morgan’s Rock Reserve guests can take a guided hike through the jungle, day or night, or kayak through the estuary to witness some truly extraordinary species of animals in their natural habitat.
