Yangon Highlights

Formerly known as Rangoon, Yangon is the largest city in Myanmar and home to one of the finest temples in the Far East, the totally beguiling Shwedagon Pagoda.
Virtually everyone visiting Myanmar will pass through Yangon, which is not actually the capital city of Burma now - that pleasure goes to a place virtually no-one has heard of, or can pronounce - Naypyidaw - but Yangon remains the de-facto capital.
We normally recommend a stay of 2 nights in Yangon, allowing a full day to explore the city. It really pays to explore a little bit beyond the Shwedagon Pagoda and downtown Yangon however, since you will no doubt be rewarded with plenty of encounters with day to day life once you step even a little way beyond the centre of Yangon.
