Cardamom Tented Camp
Cardamom Tented Camp is an eco-camp in Cambodia's Cardamom Mountains, in the Botum Sokor National Park, offering 9 very comfortable safari-style tents and a great way to discover this unique and richly bio-diverse corner of South East Asia.
There is a choice of 3 or 4 day packages, designated 'soft' and 'hard' respectively. Activities include trekking with the park rangers, helping to set up camera traps, cataloging flora and fauna, self-guided hikes and kayaking along the river.
Tents are Africa-safari style tents, pretty spacious (32 sq. m) and equipped with mosquito netting. They include twin or Queen-size beds, fan cooling and bamboo and rattan furniture. En-suite bathrooms feature hot water Rainforest Showers.
What’s so Special?
Transfers are included from Phnom Penh, Sihanoukville or Trat in Thailand (for Koh Chang) meaning there are several ways a stay at Cardamom Tented Camp can be included in a tour of Cambodia.
Bear in mind
A stay at Cardamom Tented Camp is an adventurous experience. Definitely go for the 3-night stay if you want a more in-depth experience.
Tents
The eco-camp is equipped with nine comfortable safari-style tents located inside Botum Sakor National Park that minimize the human footprint on nature and promote sustainable tourism.
Each of the nine tents provides visitors with a fully-enclosed and mosquito-protected 33 sq. m canvas tent.
In-tent amenities are the standard of a 3-star hotel, including twin or Queen double beds, sufficient fans, bamboo and rattan furniture, bathroom facilities with hot water, rain showers and spacious patios with sun chairs.

Hiking
When staying at Cardamom Tented Camp, one of the best ways to learn about the local wildlife, nature and external influences threating the park – such as illegal logging, poaching and habitat destruction – is by jungle hiking along the park’s trails.
During your stay, you will have the opportunity to visit Preak Tachan Station on a 2.5-hour forest hike with Forest Rangers, or taking a self-guided jungle hike along one of the carefully prepared hiking trails situated around the camp.
If you are staying more than two nights, there is the option to join Forest Rangers on a more comprehensive patrol to remote parts of the park along a network of forest trails.
As a longer-staying guest, you will also have more freedom to explore the forest, mangrove and river areas on your own, or go hiking, kayaking or wildlife watching with one of the experienced guides.
Kayaking
Kayaking is an exciting way to explore the Preak Tachan River and its tributaries – either by yourself, or with an experienced guide.
During your stay at Cardamom Tented Camp you will have the opportunity to visit Preak Tachan Station on a 2-hour kayak journey (4 km) up the Preak Tachan River if you wish.
Kayaking can offer amazing opportunities for sightings of rare wildlife, such as the smooth-coated otter.
You may even spot rare birds like the night heron; the endangered woolly-necked stork, or the stunning green peafowl.
The great hornbill and the Oriental pied hornbill can often be seen around the camp and along the Preak Tachan River.
As dusk falls after a long day of paddling, look out for the whooping gibbons in the trees along the river bank – it’s an exciting bonus for any kayaker visiting this pristine sanctuary.
