Grand Dedale Country House

Grand Dédale Country House is an elegant country house in the Cape Winelands, close to Wellington at the foot of the Bainskloof Pass.

This luxury boutique hotel, formerly the private residence of the owners of Doolhof Wine Estate, is nestled in a beautiful long valley on 380 hectares of vineyard, forest and fynbos , surrounded by three dramatic mountain ranges.

At Grand Dédale, privacy and exclusivity are the hallmarks, with just six individually designed luxurious rooms and a romantic thatched stone cottage, amidst beautiful Winelands scenery.

Facilities on the Estate include a large outdoor swimming pool, a spa room, hiking and 4x4 trails up Bainskloof Pass, various walks and a wine tasting centre.

A variety of activities including mountain bike trails, horse riding, clay pigeon shooting, river rafting as well as golf played on world-class golf courses, are a short drive away.

The Estate is the ideal base from which to explore the major attractions of the Cape.

What’s so Special?

Wellington with its rich history and culture is only a 5-minutes drive away, and the wine routes of Paarl, Franschhoek and Stellenbosch can all be reached within a 30-minute drive.

The location is really stunning. Entering the estate, the gates with the great ‘D’ lead past manicured horse paddocks and rows of white roses, an elegant entrance to a stunning boutique hotel.

Bear in Mind

‘Doolhof’ is the Afrikaans word for labyrinth and was given to the Estate by the early settlers in 1709, due to the many hills and vales which allowed only one way in and out. Grand Dédale translates into ‘Great Labyrinth’.
