The Oyster Box is set in lush, sub-tropical surroundings with indigenous gardens framing one side of the property and the warm Indian Ocean, the other.

A total of 86 rooms, villas and suites and an award-winning Spa, sit comfortably in the gardens, with reflection ponds, water features and ponds adding interesting touches to the lush garden.

Perfect for the end of a South Africa family holiday or the culmination of a romantic honeymoon to South Africa, The Oyster Box has an award-winning Spa, and a private cinema ideal for a movie night.

Abundant bird-life inhabits the gardens and a secluded heated swimming pool and a Victorian-style Gazebo, with a small amphitheatre lend an air of peace and tranquillity to the floral landscape.

What’s so Special?

The Oyster Box Hotel is a real treat and one of the top luxury boutique hotels in South Africa.

A Little bit of History

The Oyster Box has historic roots dating back to 1863, when the original cottage called ‘The Oyster Lodge’ was built.

Made of Burmese Teak, corrugated iron and re-enforced concrete, the Oyster Box was originally used as navigational beacon. The Oyster Box Hotel as such opened in March 1954, on the site next to the lighthouse.

In 2006 the property came up for sale and Stanley and Bea Tollman purchased the property. Although very run down, it was their vision to restore and develop the legendary Oyster Box Hotel to its original glory.

Building was completed in September 2009 and a number of the original landmarks remain intact, from the grand, revolving door at the entrance, to the reception and foyer with its black and white terrazzo tiles; wrought-iron balustrade and original, inlaid hand-painted tiles and friezes.
