Zuo You Ke Theme Hotel is a 54-room boutique hotel in Xian occupying a former primary school building in a modern part of the city about 10 minutes by car from the city walls.
The restoration of the building has been very sympathetic and Zou You Ke will appeal to those who appreciate art, architecture and design in a boutique hotel.
The hotel has a green policy, which means recycled furniture amongst other things. The antique Chinese furniture is actually one of the great features of the hotel.
Rooms are light and airy and have quite a bit of character. The exposed brick throughout the hotel gives the hotel a great atmosphere of old meets new.
What’s so Special?
Zou You Ke means more or less ‘whichever way you come from, you’re welcome’.
Outside the room, it’s possible to leave a message on a wall tile – quite a quirky but memorable idea.
Bear in mind
The location is just around the corner from the Shangri-La Hotel. There are a few places to eat nearby and taxis are abundant and very cheap for the 5-10 minute ride into the old part of Xian.
Beds are a little bit on the hard side – as they are across most of China.
Staff are very helpful but many have only limited English.
Elegant Room
Elegant Rooms (20 sq. m.) are furnished with King-size beds, antique Chinese furniture and a sofa. Rooms are fairly small but nicely furnished.
Fashionable Room
Fashionable Rooms (25 sq. m.) are larger than the Elegant Rooms, with the same features.
Classical Room
Classical Rooms (30 sq. m.) are a good size and are equipped with sofas and Chinese antique furniture.
These rooms have quite a Chinese feel to them being adorned with Chinese ceramics, paintings and calligraphy.
Sunshine Room
Sunshine Rooms (35 sq. m.) receive a lot of natural light and offer a warm and comfortable design.
Garden Room
Garden Rooms (40 sq. m.) have a living room, sofa and tea table, with full wooden framed windows, a luxury shower and bathtub.

The Tea Restaurant of Zuo You Ke is fitted out in ethnic décor and serves up pretty decent meals and great tea!
There are local places nearby to eat as well.
Facilities
Zouyouke is a small hotel with relatively few facilities. Bike rental is popular in Xian - especially for cycling around the City Walls.
