Lake Kivu
Rwanda’s largest lake, Lake Kivu forms part of the border of Western Rwanda with the DRC and is also Africa’s sixth largest lake.
Many visitors include a visit to Lake Kivu en-route from Volcanoes National Park to Nyungwe Forest or vice versa.
The views over the lake are superb from the winding road which snakes it’s way through the hills between the three main towns around the lake.
Gisenyi is the main town of note, on the northern shore of the lake and offering a handful of international standard hotels.
