Suites on the Aqua Mekong
Each of the 20 air conditioned Design Suites of the Aqua Mekong, is a spacious 30 sq. m in size, and eight feature balconies (meaning a little less interior space).
All are created entirely of local materials with the relaxed sophistication and contemporary comforts of a five star resort.
Floor to ceiling panoramic windows offer picture-window views of the Mekong from the pillow top California king-size bed (which can be converted into a twin).
Suites feature roomy daybeds placed by the window wall (or outside in the 8 balcony cabins) along with a romantic table for two.
High speed wi-fi is included and sleek bathrooms features the latest eco-sensitive technology and an additional Mekong River facing picture window, plus dual sinks, a large walk in shower with rainforest showerhead and bench, professional hairdryer and natural bath amenities.
Four sets of interconnecting suites, with two sets on each deck offer convenience for traveling families.
For the ultimate luxury it's also possible to book interconnecting suites with one suite configured as a private living room, the other as a bedroom, and separate baths.
The result is a private, 60 square meter floating apartment on the Mekong River!
Aqua Mekong
The Aqua Mekong is like a floating luxury boutique hotel and offers some of the very best on board facilities of any river cruiser in Asia.
Observation Deck
The top level Observation Deck is sunlit in and out and features modern planters chair in the air conditioned Indoor Lounge, loungers on the deck and an inviting plunge pool on the bow side.
Aqua Mekong’s top floor Observation Deck is very popular and also features a well edited selection of Indochine classics in the library and films in the private screening room.
After dark, the action is up above, when Southeast Asia’s night sky fills with constellations and shooting stars.
Outdoor Lounge
Choose to relax at either the bow or the stern of the Aqua Mekong in the ship’s Outdoor Lounges located on the Observation Deck level.
Both the bow and the stern lounges are outfitted with comfortable sun loungers and at the front, plenty of shade under a soaring canopy, plus a rooftop bar, fully stocked to mix any sip.
Sip sundowners by the river-facing plunge pool or let its cool waters take the edge off the equatorial swelter after an Aqua Expedition’s excursion into the emerald flooded forest or among the colorful melee of floating markets.
Indoor Lounge
Guests gravitate to the Indoor Lounge in the mornings for cà phê đá, Vietnamese coffee poured over ice with sweet condensed milk, between excursions to swap travelers tales and for daily lectures from Aqua Expedition’s expert local guides.
Learn about topics relevant to upcoming excursions, from the origins of Buddhism in Vietnam and Cambodia to the ecology of the great Ton Le Sap River, home year round to Brahminy kites, blue tailed bee eaters and pied kingfishers.
Private Screening Room
Enhance any Mekong River journey with classic films about this exotic region, like The Scent of Green Papaya, The Quiet American and Good Morning Vietnam.
The cruise director will be happy to organize a private screening for up to ten guests here on the Observation Deck, where guests will also gather for private lecture, videos and documentaries about the fascinating cultures to meet along this Mekong River journey.
Spa
No trip along the Mekong River would be complete without a relaxing visit to a spa showcasing the traditions of Southeast Asian massage.
Spa treatments are available throughout the day and evening by appointment in one of two specially designed spa rooms, one single and one double.
Launch Boats
Four aluminum launch boats equipped with four-stroke low emission engines in constant radio communication with the main vessel and with capacity for 10 passengers depart from the Aqua Mekong two or three times per day.
This is a wonderful way to see more and experience life on the river close up.
On Shore
Experienced river guides lead guests into the sultry jungle on foot, or by bicycle on the riverbanks, in search of enigmatic vestiges of Indochine made famous by Marguerite Duras who grew up along this timeless river.
Go in search of flocks of Painted Stork, spot Billed-Pelicans and the elusive Masked Finfoot in their last Southeast Asian refuge and explore flooded emerald forests and bamboo stilt villages accessible only by boat.
Experience modern worship in remote Buddhist monasteries, home to saffron robed monks who may grant guests private audiences amidst flickering candles and smiling stone Buddhas.
All Terrain Biking
A unique way to observe the exotic rituals of daily life along the mighty Mekong is on two wheels, stopping to photograph catfish sellers, the planting of rice paddies or local children playing with the family’s domesticated water buffalo.
Aqua is the only Mekong River cruise ship to offer guests free use of bikes which can be used at anytime to explore the picturesque riverbanks of the Mekong River.
These all-terrain touring bikes are available for both adults and children to cycle the flat paved and dirt trails next to the river.
Aqua Mekong passengers have the option of 8 to 15 km biking routes. Say hello to a crimson robed monk, photograph stilted Khmer houses and ornately embellished pagodas or, perhaps, enjoy an invitation from a new friend to dine in their nearby home.
Kayaking
Guests of the Aqua Mekong can take advantage of eight double-kayaks throughout various locations in Cambodia.
One of the best spots for kayaking is at Oknha Tey, where guests can paddle out to see local silk-weavers at work.
Similarly the Moat Khla region by Tonle Sap Lake and the waterways in the Kampong Chnnang Province are perfect locations to take to the kayaks.
Dining on Aqua Mekong
Only the cuisine of a Michelin starred master like Consulting Chef David Thompson could match the stunning space created on Aqua Mekong by floor to ceiling windows overlooking the Mekong River that let in natural sunlight, and views of the palm fringed riverbank and vibrant village life.
Designed to match and occasionally distract from the stunning surroundings, Thompson’s dishes incorporate the timeless flavors and ancient sustainable ingredients of the Mekong’s many cultures and fertile fields.
Thompson built his reputation between Sydney, London and Bangkok on Southeast Asian recipes culled from historic sources, a delectable tradition he continues on board the Aqua Mekong, bringing together the finest recipes of Khmer and Vietnamese river cultures.
Subtly balancing this timeless scenery, the refined interior has been stylishly finished with contemporary Asian artifacts, fine china and crystal glassware.
These design elements are matched by attentive, personalized service from English speaking staff that quickly learns guest names and tastes, from Vietnamese sweet coffee in the morning to the evening’s fine imported wines.
Choose to make dinner a date night, or dine family style among friends old and new.
Thompson’s menus are ever changing, designed to incorporate the day’s catch and the market’s freshest produce, be it smoked fish, tapioca and vegetable dumplings, Vietnamese catfish minced with shallots, chilies and Thai basil, grilled river prawns with peanut relish.
Is this a Private Tour or a Group Tour?
All of our tours are private tailor made itineraries, customised for you - we can amend things to entirely suit you.
You will have your own private car, driver and guide on excursions.
What are the departure dates?
Let us know your preferred dates of travel and we will find the best and most suitable flights to fit your itinerary.
As this is a private tour, there are no set departure dates other than the set dates for the Aqua Mekong Cruise.
Which Airlines do you use?
We work with all the major airlines flying to this part of the world.
Typically for Vietnam & Cambodia, Vietnam Airlines, Thai Airways, Singapore Airlines or Cathay Pacific would be airlines we most often use.
However, just let us know your preferred airline if you have one. We can organise flights from any regional destination in the UK.
Vietnam Airlines fly directly to both Hanoi and Saigon from the UK.
Which Hotels do you use?
We're careful with our choice of hotels, but we're guided by our customers also. If you have some preferred hotels, just let us know.
We specialise in boutique hotels and so we will often suggest some of our favourite smaller hotels where we think these will be suitable.
We keep on top of hotel developments in Indochina from our office in Vietnam and regularly inspect the hotels we use.
We always recommend hotels to match the standard of the Aqua Cruise.
Do you cater for Solo Travellers?
Yes, we have many solo travellers, and Vietnam and Cambodia are both very safe, friendly and welcoming destinations for those travelling alone.
River cruises on the Mekong are a popular option for solo travellers. Aqua Cruises sometimes have no Single Supplements on selected departures.
How long have you been organising holidays to Indochina?
We've been organising tailor made holidays and river cruise journeys to Indochina and beyond for over 10 years.
Our team has a wealth of combined experience in the industry and our Director has been involved in organising holidays to Vietnam & Cambodia since the early 1990's.
Our partners on the ground in Indochina have over 20 years experience in operating there.
They understand the region extremely well and have a strong infrastructure of staff, guides and vehicles.
We've had the same partnership in Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos for over 10 years.
How does your office in Vietnam help?
We have our own staff in Saigon which helps in many ways with our customers in Vietnam and South East Asia.
It helps us to keep on top of any new hotel and travel developments in the region and forge stronger relationships with hotels and other partners.
We regularly do our own inspections of hotels and destinations in the region.
Should our clients need any assistance during a trip, we always have at least one of our own staff on the same time zone, and we're open 7 days a week in Saigon.
