Leave Tokyo in the morning for Mount Fuji and Hakone. Driving by coach along the Tomei Expressway, admire the picturesque scenery of rural Honshu and the skyline dominated by the mythical Mount Fuji, which on a clear day can be seen from Tokyo some 100 km away.

Enjoy a grilled chicken lunch at Hakone Lake Hotel (a vegetarian menu is available on request). In the afternoon, enjoy a sightseeing tour by coach around Hakone, which is famed throughout Japan for the Hakone Gongen Shinto shrine, and hop aboard a sky gondola for unbeatable views of the calm waters of Lake Ashi, Mount Fuji and the volcanic clouds of the Owakudani Boiling Valley.

Visit the Boiling Valley itself, site of a crater where you can smell sulphurous fumes and see clouds of steam rise from crevasses. You may also hear of a hard-boiled way to live longer! Finally, release your inner child with a scenic pirate ship cruise across the peaceful Lake Ashi, enjoying the serene natural beauty of the crater lake, under the shadow of the magnificent Mount Fuji. The ships are modelled on traditional medieval vessels.
