Hakone and Mount Fuji can easily be visited as a day trip from Tokyo although an overnight stay is less rushed and offers the chance to soothe tired limbs in an onsen and a greater chance of seeing Mount Fuji appear from behind it’s veil of cloud.
The active might want to enjoy some walking around Hakone whilst the views from the Cable Car on a clear day are magnificent.
Be sure to go armed with the Hakone Free Pass to make the most of a visit to Hakone - Fuji. The Hakone Free Pass allows travel on a number of different transport options around the area including the Funicular Railway, Ropeway (Cablecar), local buses and even the Pirate Ship across the lake.
Hakone is a great place to experience staying in a Ryokan (a traditional Japanese Inn) and experiencing an Onsen (Hot Spring bath).
Most of our Japan tours include an overnight stay in Hakone, which is usually included on the way to Kyoto or the Japanese Alps from Tokyo.
