Indonesia has a huge expanse of coastline and is a great destination for a beach holiday. Bali has nice beaches, but don’t expect Maldivian turquoise sea and powder white sand.
Bali’s Jimbaran Bay is a peaceful stretch of Golden Sand but many of Bali’s beaches aren’t amongst the best beaches in Asia. Bali offers unique culture, but Lombok probably has nicer beaches in general.
We like Sire beach in the Northwest and the white sand and clear water of the neighbouring Gili Isles.
Further afield, Java’s Karimunjawa Islands and Nihiwatu on Sumba offer great beaches in off the beaten track locations.
