April is a transitional month as Sri Lanka comes under the influence of the Southwest monsoon. April can see higher humidity and an increasing chance of afternoon downpours as the month progresses. Generally this is still a very good month to visit Sri Lanka.
The Southern and Western beaches should still see plentiful rain-free days with lots of sunshine and temperatures in the thirties.
On the East coast and in the north of Sri Lanka, things are generally dry and hot, meaning April is a good month for a beach holiday on either side of the country.
Rainfall is still very low in Kandy, the Hill Country and the Cultural Triangle.
